General Description of Role
The Buyer 1 is an entry level purchasing professional who will work to ensure that YJBM has all the products, materials, and supplies needed to operate effectively and efficiently in a manner that is aligned with established policies and procedures. This is accomplished by analyzing demand requirements and placing purchase orders, maintaining/monitoring past due reports, following up on orders to ensure materials are delivered on time, etc. The Buyer may work directly in support of the production line operations and/or in collaboration with department managers, engineers, or operations staff to procure product, helping to ensure that YJBM sales and delivery requirements are achieved.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform various raw materials, components, and supplies procurement activities, which includes MRP analysis, requisition processing/PO generation, and supplier follow-up to effectively support production requirements.
- Monitor open PO status reports to ensure that products are delivered on time and in acceptable condition. As needed, will track shipments and follow up with suppliers regarding undelivered goods.
- Discuss non-conforming goods or services with production inspection or quality control personnel, suppliers, and others to determine root cause and take corrective action.
- Coordinate the timely resolution of rejected material, returns, and recovery charges with suppliers.
- Work closely with Yamaha supplier quality assurance personnel as needed to improve the quality and performance of suppliers.
- Continually monitor department metrics and take action as needed to drive continual improvement in supplier pricing, quality, delivery performance, etc.
- Support accounts payable process and resolution of invoice issues.
- Conduct professional and ethical dealings with external suppliers.
- Project a positive company image by interacting with fellow employees, suppliers, and customers, in a cooperative, supportive, and courteous manner, while continually displaying a professional demeanor.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience / Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field.
- Entry level knowledge of procurement processes/best practices.
- Basic understanding of production processes.
- Basic knowledge of MRP and ERP systems (QAD or SAP preferred)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate across all organizational levels as well as with customers and supplier representatives.
- Must be self-motivated and possess excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
Work involves walking, standing, sitting, reaching, etc. Primarily an office working environment.
