Job Description
The Category Analyst supports the company goals and objectives through data analysis. The Category Analyst will identify category trends, consumer insights, review key indicators, and anticipating objections. This role will be responsible for performing analysis and effectively communicating insights, including competitive benchmarking, market trends, vendor performance, and extensive product/brand analyses. The Category Analyst is responsible for delivering impactful summaries that highlight opportunities for growth for the category, vendor/brand, and at retail to help increase sales opportunities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide analytical support for category management projects and initiatives utilizing various CPG data sources and tools ensure quality results are delivered
- Provide insights and recommendations optimizing the 4 Ps (product, placement, price, promotion) by analyzing performance, competitive benchmarking, and market trends
- Provide industry and category-specific knowledge on consumer behavior and shopper loyalty data
- Build, update and refresh weekly and monthly dashboards to include retailer scorecards
- Remain current on customer KPI's, strategies, innovation, and other important information
- Develop storylines and presentations to effectively communicate findings both internally and externally
- Responsible for quality control of data sources and ensuring accuracy of deliverables
- Makes timely, well-informed decisions that advance critical priorities, capitalize on new opportunities, and resolve problems
- Understand the needs and objectives of the business and deliver results by partnering with sales team members to develop sound business strategy
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- 2+ years of sales experience, Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), broker, or distributor industry experience strongly preferred
- Expert in MS Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to conduct VLOOKUP, Index Match, Advanced conditional formatting, Pivot Tables, and data simulations required
- Direct customer presentation experience preferred
- Experience with syndicated data, statistics and analytics tools such as Power BI and Tableau preferred
- Ability to apply sound business principles and practices to projects
- Ability to work in an office environment that could include extended periods of sitting or standing, while occasionally lifting or carrying materials and supplies
