COMMUNITY PROGRAMS MANAGER

 

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark and accredited museum in Miami, Florida (www.vizcaya.org). The Community Programs Manager engages Miami’s diverse community through curating dynamic programs for broad audiences—fostering meaningful visitor experiences. The Community Programs Manager establishes goals and audience objectives for public programs as Vizcaya expands operations to include three restored historic buildings in the Vizcaya Village for learning and program experiences. The position is on the Engagement & Cultural Resources Team in the Community Partnerships, Programs, and Interpretation (CPPI) department and reports to the department’s director.

 

Vizcaya is owned by Miami-Dade County and is operated by the non-profit Vizcaya Museum and Gardens Trust, Inc. Essential Functions

  • Research, develop, curate, plan and implement public programs to engage a broad public with a special focus on local communities.
  • Help establish goals and audience objectives for innovative public programs and conceptualize the next

phase in the Museum’s public programming.

  • Develop creative experiences inspired by Vizcaya’s history/legacy and around topics including public art projects/design, architecture, and environmental sustainability, among others.
  • Strategize with the other departments to use programs as a recruiting tool for new members and a benefit for existing members.
  • Develop strategies to connect with new audiences and implement processes to create programming based on visitors input and co-create experiences with existing and potential attendees.

Cultivate and shepherd a wide variety of partnerships and contacts, including not limited to co community-based organizations, artists, and local creatives.

  • Collaborate with members of the museum’s Outreach Committee and Marketing & Communications department to analyze target audiences and develop effective promotional materials/strategies to reach them.
  • Manage program ticketing systems and visitor/customer service issues related to public programs.
  • Develop, conduct and analyze audience survey evaluation reports for public programs on a regular basis.
  • and networks and seek opportunities to present on Vizcaya Museum and Gardens’ initiatives.
  • Manage the Community Programs Facilitator.

 

General Responsibilities of Managers in Supervisory Roles

  • Achieve meaningful and timely actions that advance Vizcaya’s mission,vision, and strategic plan.
  • Help to sustain and grow Vizcaya’s revenues and participate in pursuing funding opportunities.
  • Proactively promote communication, collaboration, and customer service.
  • Engage in internal committees as appropriate and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Recommend hiring, discipline and promotion of your direct reports; review and approve payroll, leave and overtime; set annual employee goals and evaluate performance.
  • Create and manage your budget; ensure you and your direct reports understand and comply with Vizcaya’s policies and procedures; review the work of your direct reports for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Demonstrate knowledge about and collaborate with others to achieve departmental, team and institutional strategic plan goals.
  • Actively promotes core values of employee engagement and communications, equity and inclusion and environmental sustainability.
  • Support departmental management functions when requested, in the absence of the department director or otherwise.
  • Manage, coach, and support the employees they supervise and other emerging professionals as well.

Position Requirements

  • At least 6 years of full-time work experience in event programming including at least 4 years of community outreach or museum education experience. At least 3 years in a supervisory role (staff, interns, and/or volunteers).
  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, Humanities, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Deep and current knowledge of large-scale event production, cultural competency, and museum education practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teambuilding, communications, project management and fiscal management skills.
  • Consistently high proficiency and accountability in the following areas: job knowledge, work habits, compliance with policies and procedures, work quality and project management, initiative, communications, teamwork, customer responsiveness, leadership, decision making/problem-solving and supervision.
  • Positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, flexibility and commitment to collaboration, customer service, strategy, and innovation.
  • English fluency.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

 

Factors Vizcaya Will Consider When Evaluating Applicants and Determining Compensation


 

  • Additional relevant work experience, training, and education.
  • Spanish, Haitian Creole and other language skills.

 

 

Compensation

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens offers competitive compensation with generous paid leave, retirement benefits, and robust medical and other insurance for full-time employees. The salary will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and skills. The anticipated compensation is approximately $62,600 for

someone meeting the requirements of the position to approximately $69,000 for someone exceeding them.

 

Work Environment/Physical Demands

The majority of work is done in an office setting, with some portion involving interaction with the public, community members, partners, donors, vendors, contractors, and other constituents on and off site. Vizcaya is a non-smoking environment.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Schedule

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), exempt position, typically Monday-Friday. Frequent evening and weekend work is required.
