Job Description:

Location: Cheyenne Wells, CO (home base) and travel to a sitenear Siebert, CO
Duration: 12 month contract to start
Onsite: 3 days per week during construction
Scope: This scope of work for this electrical engineering position in Colorado includes overseeing and contributing to large-scale wind projects. As a project engineer, this person will be responsible for providing electrical expertise, with a focus on evaluating project drawings and handling requests for information (RFIs) across multiple projects. Project Overview includes Large Projects near Siebert, CO; Two large wind facilities, which is starting construction soon, followed by a third wind facility that will begin construction shortly after these first two. Lastly, there are smaller capital Projects within the CO region that the engineer will also have opportunities to work on. This resource should have renewable generation project experience and should be willing/able to travel to the site. Should have 2-3 years/equivalent experience with other renewables as well.
Day to Day: A typical day for this electrical engineering position will vary based on the project phase: Early Project Phase: The day will focus on defining the scope of work and developing technical specifications for the project. This may involve collaborating with other engineers and project stakeholders to ensure all requirements are clearly outlined. Engineering/Procurement Phase: Once agreements are made for engineering and equipment, the focus will shift to evaluating drawings, studies, and analyses. This will involve reviewing the technical documentation to confirm that everything aligns with the project specifications and requirements.
Construction Phase: During construction, the day will be more hands-on, assisting contractors by addressing any questions they may have about the project. This could include clarifying details about the design or construction process and troubleshooting any issues that arise on-site. The overall responsibilities will shift from planning and reviewing to providing direct support during the construction phase. This resource should have knowledge of how to resolve a RFI and NCR noncompliance requests. This resource will work with our lead electrical engineer on the project to be able to understand/interpret design drawings and managing the compliance of the construction to the design drawings and managing RFI requests.
Top 3-5 Skills:
5-7 years of electrical engineering experience with 2-3 years specifically in the renewable generation project space (construction or engineering design).
Resource should have a bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited school or strong/commensurate experience.
Familiarity with ProjectWise, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam would be helpful to review EPC contractors' drawings (technical review communication tool). SAP might be a plus.
Resource should have very strong written and verbal communication skills along with strong analytical [thinking] skills to resolve answering questions, troubleshooting design conflicts, etc. Organization is key in this role as they will be interfacing with several different team, tracking and documenting.
Resource should have knowledge of/familiarity with NCRs, RFIs, and the ability to understand and manage the scope of a contract.
Soft Skills: This resource should be a strong team player with experience preferably in a large matrixed organization which would show proof of the ability to work cross functionally. Also be detail oriented, strong communication skills, and strong troubleshooting skills to resolve design issues that may come up as the project progresses.
Certs: Engineering training/certification to become a professional engineer.
Ideal candidate background and YOE: 5-7 years of electrical engineering experience with 2-3 years specifically in the renewable generation project space (construction or engineering design).
Job Description:
Responsible for the design, modeling, development and testing of a machine, structure or system. Develops functional requirements & understands and applies standard engineering principles. Creates simulations and prototypes to evaluate preliminary designs and test how a machine, structure or system operates. Designs and tests components, and integrates components to produce final product. Monitors quality of products and controls the efficiency of processes. Evaluates a designs overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety. Investigates root causes of failures to maintain quality and recommend improvements.
Viewed as the technical project engineer or subject matter expert for the organization for an assigned area of responsibility (i.e. subject matter, function, type of facility, equipment or product). Responsible for major projects or several complex projects of moderate to large scope. Serves as organization expert on projects. Maintains contacts with individuals and units within and outside the corporation for action on technical matters. Assignments are often self-initiated. Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by formal review of superior. May provide work direction for a team of engineers, technicians and other professionals as necessary to complete assignments. May lead multiple critical and/or complex projects.

  • Applies extensive technical expertise and has a higher-level understanding of the basic principles of other related disciplines. Fully demonstrates the unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level by applying advanced technical principles, theories and concepts, and contributes to the development of new principles, concepts and technical standards. Fully demonstrates unique technical skills.
  • As a recognized internal technical SME, conceives plans to develop procedures, codes and standards in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity and supports the development of technical documentation through a series of complex scope requiring unconventional or innovative approaches.
  • Exercises authority and technical leadership on assignments that are often self-initiated and self-directed. Assignments are strategic and have significant long-term implications to achievement of overall business objectives.
  • Will be assigned to multiple critical and/or complex projects including design, equipment specification & selection, installation, start-up, commissioning and evaluation of work progress and results.
  • Participates in bid/evaluation processes which include the preparation of bid documents, completion of technical evaluations for proposals and the review and approval of recommendations for selection.
  • Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects. Is influential in all forms of communications with internal and external business.
  • May provide oversight of engineers, interns, craft personnel, technicians and other professionals. Demonstrates effective leadership skills.
  • May provide overall coordination of processes related to budgeting, estimating, forecasting, accounting and work order management, in support of existing engineering projects or packaging proposals for future projects.
    Level Minimum Requirements
  • Required bachelors degree in electrical engineering from ABET accredited curriculum (or recognized equivalency).
  • 4+ years relevant engineering experience with FE registration preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level established & documented by the organization.
