Development Services Engineer / Engineering Analyst
This role will be responsible for providing project management and technical support in evaluation, selection, procurement and development of power generation projects.
Responsibilities will include providing site analysis, negotiating land contracts, obtaining local permits and regulatory approvals, negotiating tax abatements, providing due diligence support on acquisitions, repowering, and development projects. Knowledge of power generation technologies, transmission interconnect processes, environmental diligence, zoning classifications, permitting approval, and real estate transactions is preferred.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide support and technical expertise for real estate, permitting, and environmental due diligence work associated with screening, valuation, and risk mitigation of project acquisition opportunities
- Lead site development activities for new generation, repowering, and expansion of existing generation projects including Phase I/II environmental site assessments, archeological/cultural resource evaluations, land surveys, securing unencumbered land title, procuring required easements or other real estate rights, land use permits, regulatory approvals, and tax abatements
- Identify and assess potential sites for new-build generation opportunities
- Conduct site visits and lead negotiation of real estate transactions and permit approvals
- Negotiate and obtain new tax abatements
- Support positive landowner relationships during development and construction
Education& Work Experience
- 4-year college degree required
- MBA or other advanced degree desirable
- Three to five years relevant experience a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations and real estate laws
- Working knowledge of local land use regulations, zoning requirements, and state regulatory approval processes
- Working knowledge of financial analysis tools and tax abatements
- Working knowledge of computer mapping tools including GIS or Google Earth
- Ability to negotiate with landowners to secure site control as well as represent the company in front of county officials to secure permits and tax abatements
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Ability to collect, synthesize, and interpret information quickly to formulate business decisions and risk mitigation strategies
- Ability to work closely with both internal and external stakeholders, including engineering, environmental, construction, and financial teams within the company, as well as external consultants, attorneys, and landowners
Moderate travel will be required for this position
