The City of Chesapeake's Department of Public Works is seeking a Traffic Engineer II/Engineer III with an emphasis in traffic modeling and technical leadership. The position is responsible for overseeing our Traffic Calming Program, reviewing Traffic Impact Analyses, and reviewing Maintenance of Traffic Plans. The ideal Engineer candidate will have a strong working knowledge of traffic engineering practices and experience in supervising a team of professionals to successfully deliver studies within schedule and scope. In addition, the ideal Engineer candidate will be familiar with traffic signal timing and traffic signal system operations.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, engineering or a closely related field. Proficiency in traffic engineering software and modeling tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, AutoCAD) required.
Virginia DEQ Certified Plan Reviewer and/or Program Administrator for SWM is required within 12 months of employment.

- Engineer II requires a minimum of 2 years experience
- Engineer III requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in traffic engineering, including traffic modeling and technical leadership. Engineer III also requires a Professional Engineer license.
