A Brief Overview
The Trauma Registrar is responsible for abstraction of all reportable cases in a timely manner in accordance with the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF), American College of Surgeons (ACS) and department guidelines. This is a remote, per-diem position.

What you will do

Abstracting trauma cases from the electronic medical record into the Trauma Registry as required by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF). Identifies resources and utilizes department and hospital systems to ensure accurate, complete, and timely case reporting
Timely reporting to the PTSF per registry standards for compliance.
Participates in the Interrater Reliability (IRR) program as mandated by PTSF which includes review of electronic data, correcting the data and following back with the reporting source if necessary.
Works collaboratively with the Trauma Program Medical Director, Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Program Performance Improvement Coordinator, Trauma Data Analyst and other trauma colleagues to collect, organize, and disseminate results
Maintains and monitors Trauma Registry Log to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Attends internal Trauma related committees when appropriate.
Assists with compliance with PTSF standards and other applicable regulatory standards
Other responsibilities include the following:
Participating in educational workshops, seminars, and individual training sessions as appropriate.
Traveling both in and out of state for professional development (less than 2%) including pertinent external trauma conferences such as annual PTSF Registry Conference.
Experience working both independently and as part of a team
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Ability to successfully interact with a variety of personnel and professionals

Education Qualifications

High School Diploma / GED Required
Technical Diploma Abbreviated Injury Scoring (AIS) Course, TQIP training course, ATS Trauma Registrar Course, or PTSF Basic Trauma Registrar Course Preferred
Associate's Degree in a health related field Preferred

Experience Qualifications

At least two (2) years medical coding or abstracting experience Preferred
Trauma Registry experience Preferred

Skills and Abilities

Medical terminology and anatomy and physiology knowledge (Required proficiency)
Strong knowledge of technology and software applications (Required proficiency)
Strong written and speaking communication skills (Required proficiency)
Strong typing skills (Required proficiency)
Abbreviated Injury Scoring (AIS) Course, TQIP training course, ATS Trauma Registrar Course, or PTSF Basic Trauma Registrar Course within one (1) year of placement into position. (Required proficiency)
ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS coding and ISS coding knowledge (Preferred proficiency)
