Essential responsibilities of the Water Meter Technician:

Water Meter (Reader) Technician performs physically demanding work reading meters.
Read water meters on assigned routes and enter readings into the handheld computer.
Assists in the scrubbing of readings both before and after billing. Including rereading, locating, unburying, and removing water/debris.
Water Meter Technician must have the ability to walk over 10 miles per day with constant bending and kneeling in all kind of weather.
Must be able to visually read meters accurately that may be flooded, muddy, scratched, and cloudy, etc.
Must have the ability to lift meter box lids that may weigh up to 15 lbs. and drive a vehicle.
The candidate for Water Meter Technician should have problem-solving skills for unexpected incidents which may occur while reading meters.
Equipment used includes a city vehicle, handheld computer, screwdriver/pry bar, pump, 2-way radio, sight tube, and small hand trowel.
Candidates may encounter dogs, bees, snakes, spiders, etc.

SOME SATURDAYS WILL BE REQUIRED.

EMPLOYEES WILL BE REQUIRED TO RESPOND DURING SEVERE/INCLEMENT WEATHER EVENTS, OTHER EMERGENCIES, OR UNUSUAL CONDITIONS DECLARED BY THE DIRECTOR.
