The Buyer position is responsible for schedule, order and coordinate the delivery of parts materials, equipment and services used in product manufacturing according to production plans.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties and responsibilities of this job are included but not limited to this job description - other tasks may be assigned and expected to be performed.

  • Manages supplier releases within QAD system working with vendors to ensure on time delivery and performance.
  • Controls the inventory in accordance with management objectives, setting safety stock and reviewing QAD for proper settings of all parameters to ensure delivery.
  • Stays in close contact with all direct supply vendors to ensure communication is flowing and relationships are enhanced.
  • Reports any shortages, missed deliveries, etc. related to the production environment to the Materials Manager for assisted action through use of the Critical Shortage Report.
  • Works with Logistics on shortages, etc. to ensure customer needs are met to the OEM customers.
  • Works closely with related departments to communicate any part shortages and recovery plans.
  • Enters and maintains data into Excel to manage any circumstance related to a supplier issue for tracking and plan/action records.
  • Enters requisitions into EAM and sends PO's to the vendors after approval (Indirect materials, MRO, Tool Room, Office Supplies, Etc.).
  • Follows up on Requisitions to be sure they are approved timely and PO's are issued and sent.
  • Works closely with Accounting to ensure approval or surcharges are managed of prior to entry into the systems for payment/reconciliation and creates Debit Memos to suppliers related to quality and delivery issues.
  • Maintains supplier relationships and assists in sourcing new MRO suppliers.
  • Monitors supplier performance and takes action when necessary; Participates in Supplier Ratings through the Report Card Systems Meetings.
  • Assists the Materials Manager in reporting all monthly metrics related to the supply chain in Portland Facility (QOS, Local meetings).
  • Indirectly reports to the Production Planning & Procurement Supervisor in Chicopee who issues blanket orders and directs the activity of the purchasing functions overall for Direct Materials.
  • Assists the Materials Manager with projects, cost savings activities and other related activities as needed
  • Other related tasks to the Materials functions as directed by the Materials Manager or the Production Planning & Procurement Supervisor.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred. APICS Certification is a plus.
  • At least 5 years of related experience.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Attention to small details as well as strong math skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a structured team
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing terminology and practices

Work Environment: This is an office position and primarily involves sitting at a desk, operating computer hardware. However, while performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be walking throughout the office building and on the shop floor.
